David Berliner

David Berliner is a seasoned business leader with a reputation as a thoughtful and creative manager, problem-solver, and consensus builder. He is an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania (B.A., summa cum laude) and Columbia Law School (J.D). Over the course of his career he has held varied leadership roles in both for-profit and philanthropic settings where he consistently drove exceptional results for complex organizations. His career is marked by successes in transformative organizational design, leadership management and motivational team building.
David served as the President of the Brooklyn Museum until 2022. In this role, he personally led the creation of the Museum’s strategic plan, which provided a roadmap for financial sustainability and advancement of the Museum's mission and operations. Prior to his tenure at the Brooklyn Museum, David was the Chief Operating Officer of Forest City Ratner Companies, a Brooklyn-based real estate developer and property owner, leading the company in building and managing millions of square feet of residential and commercial properties throughout New York, including the New York Times headquarters building and Barclays Center.
David has a long history of service on many Boards of not-for-profit organizations and has experience leading Executive, Finance and Audit Committees. He is the Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of the Madison Square Park Conservancy. Prior to his position as President of the Brooklyn Museum, he served on the Board of Trustees of the Museum and was the Chair of its Finance Committee. He also served on the Board of NYC & Company, the official destination-marketing organization for New York City.
He is adept at strategic planning to create actionable, goal-oriented blueprints for organizational stability and growth. He is currently an advisor and executive coach on strategy, organizational development and planning for a number of not-for-profit organizations, executive leaders, and Boards.
